[Poem] Ariadne
Okay so this is a poem I wrote a few years ago for a mythology class I was taking... I have to say I am really quite proud of it. It is the only poem I have ever written and quite possibly the only one I will ever write...
Ariadne
A spark, a passion, a love
Formed within my heart,
Turning all loyalties from country, to you,
As you marched past
Toward my brother and certain death.
My hearts call screams, from
The darkness forming within my chest.
You took the string, the twine,
The yarn.
So now I pray and cry.
Are you Alive?
Be alive.
For it is you I love.
Perfect man, great hero, my soul.
I can see you now, rising up, returning
From that hole.
Oh how my heart sings, as if it were never low.
I step aboard your ship,
A dull breeze floating by,
Whispering of betrayal.
But I didn't listen as they launched the boat,
For I had you at my side,
You and your treachery.
I looked for reason,
A scapegoat
For your sudden change.
I then looked at an island,
A desolate land
As you sailed away, out of range.
I watched in awe.
My love betrayed,
Shown the true you.
I watched the real monster go.
Pain flowed,
From the hole of my heart.
But then there he was,
With a bandage for my heart,
And a soft worded tongue,
And a new love grew, for Dionysus.
Was I not pretty?
Was I not loyal and young?
Well just ask for me now…

Well, Fray, if you don't mind me asking, why is it called Ariadne?

Re: [Poem] Ariadne
Because Ariadne is a character from Greek mythology and it was suppose to be written from her point of view. Her brother was the Minotaur that was kept in a labyrinth. She gave Perseus the ball of twine to help find his way through and kill the Minotaur. She then sailed away with him on a ship only he ended up betraying her and leaving her stranded on some island where she was then found and rescued by the god Dionysus whom she ended up marrying.
Its a rewrite I had to do for a mythology class. The original poem was called Medusa by Carol Ann Duffy.

- Medusa:
- A suspicion, a doubt, a jealousy
grew in my mind,
which turned the hairs on my head to filthy snakes
as though my thoughts
hissed and spat on my scalp.
My bride’s breath soured, stank
in the grey bags of my lungs.
I’m foul mouthed now, foul tongued,
yellow fanged.
There are bullet tears in my eyes.
Are you terrified?
Be terrified.
It’s you I love,
perfect man, Greek God, my own;
but I know you’ll go, betray me, stray
from home.
So better by for me if you were stone.
I glanced at a buzzing bee,
a dull grey pebbly fell
to the ground.
I glanced at a singing bird,
a handful of dusty gravel
spattered down
I looked at a ginger cat,
a housebrick
shattered a bowl of milk.
I looked at a snuffling pig,
a boulder rolled
in a heap of s***.
I stared in the mirror.
Love gone bad
showed me a Gorgon.
I stared at a dragon.
Fire spewed
from the mouth of a mountain.
And here you come
with a shield for a heart
and a sword for a tongue
and your girls, your girls.
Wasn’t I beautiful
Wasn’t I fragrant and young?
Look at me now.
Re: [Poem] Ariadne
Oh, yeah, now I remember! I read so much about Greek mythology, but I don't remember much about Ariadne.

Re: [Poem] Ariadne
